Michelle, who has been riding at the Centre since the age of five, was keen to boost the Centre’s income during lockdown, as the cost of keeping the 14 horses and ponies continues, even though the income from rider donations halted abruptly in March.
A friend came up with the idea of taking on the 26 or 2.6 Challenge, so Michelle rode 8.36 kilometres a day for five days on her exercise bike.
She set up a JustGiving page, publicized her idea on Facebook and the money soon started to roll in.
‘It was fantastic,’ she said. ‘People were so generous and I’m hugely grateful to them all.’
Michelle, a talented dressage rider, has represented West Norfolk RDA four times at the RDA National Dressage Championships, held at Hartpury College, Gloucestershire, achieving eighth place riding Jupiter, a cob, in 2019.
Said Michelle: ‘I was looking forward to competing on Jupiter again this year, but the competition’s been cancelled. Now I just want to get back to riding him as soon as I can.’
